Why Supporting Women in Roofing Matters to PMI

The roofing industry has changed a lot over the years, which we view as a good thing.

At PMI, we believe the future of roofing is stronger when it creates space for more perspectives, more leadership, and more opportunity. That’s one of the reasons we’re proud to support National Women in Roofing (NWIR), an organization dedicated to empowering women in the roofing industry and helping move the profession forward for everyone. NWIR describes its mission simply: to empower women in roofing and support career growth, connection, and professionalism across the industry.

For us, this isn’t just about putting our name behind an organization. It’s about being intentional about the kind of company - and industry - we want to help build.

Our Team’s Commitment Goes Beyond a Membership

What makes this meaningful for PMI is that our support for NWIR isn’t limited to just one person or one department.

Our team (both men and women) are part of NWIR membership as a way to show our support for women in roofing and for the continued growth of the industry as a whole. That includes team members who are involved at multiple levels, from local chapters to broader council participation.

Some of our team members are even involved in specialized NWIR councils, which are designed to help members connect, network, and support one another at both local and national levels. NWIR’s council structure is built specifically to create stronger community and leadership opportunities throughout the industry.

That kind of involvement matters because meaningful change doesn’t happen from the sidelines. It happens when people choose to participate.

Roofing Is Better When More Voices Are Included

Roofing has traditionally been seen as a male-dominated industry. While that perception still exists in some places, the reality is that women are making a major impact across every corner of the business, from operations and project management to sales, leadership, administration, marketing, and field support.

And when more people feel welcomed into the industry, everybody benefits.

A more inclusive roofing industry creates:

  • stronger teams
  • better communication
  • broader leadership perspectives
  • more innovation
  • and more opportunities for the next generation of professionals

At PMI, we’ve seen firsthand how valuable those different perspectives can be. Great companies are built by great people and great people come from all backgrounds, experiences, and career paths.

Supporting Women in Roofing Supports the Future of the Industry

One of the things we appreciate most about NWIR is that it’s not just symbolic. The organization provides real opportunities for professional growth through networking, education, mentoring, leadership development, and community-building. Membership benefits include mentoring, training, career development resources, networking opportunities, and access to local and national events.

That matters because the roofing industry, as is the case in many skilled trades, is always looking ahead.

If we want to strengthen the workforce, attract great talent, and continue raising the standard of professionalism in roofing, we need to make sure the industry feels accessible and welcoming to more people. Supporting women in roofing is part of that.

It’s not a trend or simply following the direction of the wind: it’s a smart investment in the future.

Why This Matters to Our Customers, Too

For our customers, this may seem like an “inside the industry” topic, but it actually says a lot about who we are as a company.

The businesses that prioritize people, leadership, development, and professionalism are often the same businesses that prioritize communication, accountability, and customer experience. In other words: supporting organizations like NWIR reflects the kind of standards we believe in.

We want PMI to be a place where talented people can build meaningful careers, continue growing, and feel proud of the work they do. And we want our customers to know they’re working with a company that values progress, professionalism, and community.

We’re Proud to Be Part of the Momentum

There’s still more work to do across the roofing industry, but there’s also a lot of momentum.

Organizations like National Women in Roofing are helping create that momentum by opening doors, building connections, and elevating the people helping shape the future of roofing. NWIR is also marking its 10-year anniversary in 2026, reflecting on a decade of growth and advocacy in the industry.

At PMI, we’re proud to support that mission. And we’re even prouder to have team members who are actively involved in helping move the industry forward.
